In 1963 the state legislature created Metropolitan State College of Denver as Colorado's urban "College of Opportunity." Since then it has occupied an important niche in the state's system of higher education and is committed to excellence in teaching and learning.
Degrees:
The College awards bachelor of science, bachelor of arts, bachelor of music and bachelor of fine arts degrees. Students can choose from 52 majors and 79 minors offered through three schools: Business; Letters, Arts and Sciences; and Professional Studies. Students may also design their own majors and minors through the Individualized Degree Program.
Location:
Metro State is located on the Auraria Higher Education Center, a 127-acre campus in downtown Denver at Speer Boulevard and West Colfax Avenue. The College also has two satellite campus sites: Metro South (5660 Greenwood Plaza Blvd. in Englewood), and Metro North (11990 Grant Street in Northglenn).
Schedule:
A variety of courses are offered during weekdays, evenings and on weekends on the Auraria campus and at Metro North and Metro South. Sixteen degree programs can be completed by taking courses scheduled during the evenings, weekends and online. Metro State offers certificate programs as well as telecourses and correspondence courses. The College is also unveiling a “Weekend College” schedule in Spring 2005, where students can attend classes on the weekend.
Admission:
First-time college students who are 20 years of age or older and hold a high school diploma or GED are automatically admitted, irrespective of their academic record.
Tuition:
Tuition has been and remains among the lowest in the state. The in-state resident’s cost for one three credit hour course on the Auraria Campus for Spring 2008 semester is $489.48.
